Music BC Charitable Foundation is preparing for their upcoming Annual General Meeting on September 23, 2013. We will be unveiling many changes at this year’s AGM, but voting will be restricted to members only. If you sign up for renew your membership with our organization before September 13th, you’ll be entered for a chance to win a $250 Best Buy gift card!

Music BC Charitable Foundation’s Board of Directors is seeking eligible candidates to fill one vacant position.
Music BC Charitable Foundation is a leader in supporting music education programs across British Columbia. Our Adopt an Instrument program provides quality instruments to public and Aboriginal schools, regional youth orchestras and community centres across BC. Songwriters of a New Generation (SONG) is a mentor based program for ages 12-24 that teaches basic song writing skills as a means of healthy expression. The Music BC Charitable Trust provides scholarships to financially needy and exceptionally talented young musicians who are pursuing post-secondary education in music.
Now in its’ 7th year, Music BC Charitable Foundation is entering an exciting year with a recently developed organizational rebrand, the launch of two new funding campaigns, and an increase in our program delivery.
The Board of Directors is comprised of a dynamic group of “hands on” people from the music and corporate industries, and music education, who work as a team to champion our mission and vision. Each director serves a 2-year term with the possibility of re-election for one additional term.
Ideally, candidates should possess some of the following skills, knowledge, and traits:
- A passion for music and a strong commitment to support public school music education
- Experience in one of the fields of education, community building, music, marketing, entertainment, finances, or fundraising
- Have a basic knowledge of and appreciation for various music genres
- Ability to attend monthly meetings, an annual strategic planning session, and at least one school and community youth concert.
- Possess a sense of fairness and humour.

Elections will be held at our Annual General Meeting on Monday, September 23, 2013. Young persons age 21+, women, and people from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Music BC Charitable Foundation is excited to announce that the 2012-13 Year-End SONG Recital is booked for Gallagher’s Coffee Bar & Cafe in Port Moody. Performances will feature student singer-songwriters from Heritage Woods and Port Moody Secondary in the Tri-Cities.
The evening will be hosted by Vancouver-based professional singer-songwriter David Blair, who has mentored these students all year in extra-curricular songwriting workshops designed not only to enhance their musicianship and creativity, but to enhance their confidence and social skills in a positive, judgment-free environment.
Ryan Guldemond, guitarist/vocalist with Vancouver band Mother Mother, will also appear. The show is free, and kicks off at 7:30pm. We hope to see you there, to get a taste of the great service the SONG program provides for students interested in pursuing music education beyond the classroom.
On Saturday, May 25th at the Backstage Lounge on Granville Island, join us as Music BC Charitable Foundation helps celebrate the life of Duncan McPhee, and will announce our new Duncan McPhee Memorial Scholarship!
Performers will include Bandwagon and Fowl Mouth McPhee. Doors ($10) open at 8:30 p.m., with proceeds benefiting the scholarship fund.
On Wednesday, April 10th at the Media Club in Vancouver, Nimbus School of Recording Arts held their annual Spring Social, celebrating grads and welcoming new students, with proceeds from the event benefiting Music BC Charitable Foundation!
The Foundation is thrilled to receive $192.30 in donations from the event – enough to furnish a school band with replacement reeds for their woodwinds, with enough left over to match a school with a mentor for a SONG Session!

The Vancouver Fan Club will be hosting a benefit party for the Music BC Charitable Foundation on February 13th, 2013. The party will be held at the Fan Club’s fantastic Granville Street venue. The party will be a Mardi Gras-themed celebration featuring these amazing musical guests:

Music BC Charitable Foundation will host its annual community event on December 7th, 2012 at the Vogue Theater located at 918 Granville Street. The purpose of the event is to support music education and celebrate the incredible achievements of BC artists. Music BC Charitable Foundation would like to thank LIVE at Squamish and brand.LIVE for the opportunity to conduct a charity guitar raffle at the LIVE at Squamish music festival this year. We have a gorgeous Epiphone acoustic which we will be requesting all LIVE at Squamish artists sign during the course of the festival. Attendees of the festival will have a chance to buy their tickets all weekend long, either at the artist merchandise booth or from our mobile ticket selling team!
