On Wednesday, April 10th at the Media Club in Vancouver, Nimbus School of Recording Arts held their annual Spring Social, celebrating grads and welcoming new students, with proceeds from the event benefiting Music BC Charitable Foundation!

The Foundation is thrilled to receive $192.30 in donations from the event – enough to furnish a school band with replacement reeds for their woodwinds, with enough left over to match a school with a mentor for a SONG Session!

We are excited to announce the return of the Vancouver Music Industry Award Gala!

You are invited to join Music BC Charitable Foundation for this wonderful night of music, awards, and fundraising. The VMI Gala will take place April 10th at the Vancouver FanClub, located downtown on Granville Street.

The night will feature an award gala with live performances, silent auction, video presentations, and speeches from honoured guests and board members.  Awards will be presented to influential contributors to the Vancouver Music Industry; past recipients have included Randy Bachman, Jim Valance, Bryan Adams, and Red Robinson. New this year, the people’s choice award for Vancouver’s Unsung Hero – an industry veteran who’s made a real difference behind the scenes in the local music community – will be presented.

Also new this year, the very first VMI Rock n’ Roll Poker Tournament, hosted by Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Aerosmith) & Jeff Dawson (Daniel Powter, State of Shock) with proceeds going to Music Heals Charitable Foundation and Music BC Charitable Foundation.

Don’t forget about the annual VMI Silent Auction. Discover amazing treasures and keepsakes autographed by rock stars and athletes. Bidding is taking place now on the VMI website, and will continue with more items at the event.

Shaun Verreault of Wide Mouth Mason will be acting as the house band for the night! Early bird tickets on sale now. This is a night you don’t want to miss!

Music BC Charitable Foundation would like to thank students from the Pacific Audio Visual Institute’s Music Business Management program for donating proceeds from their War of Rock fundraiser held at the Backstage Lounge on January 9^th. The show was a resounding success, raising $970 for the Foundation and its ongoing mission of engaging and inspiring BC youth through access to music and music education.

Hosted by Ryan Biel and Taz VanRassel of The Sunday Service, the War of Rock featured a battle of the bands between Carm N Drea, Marry Me, Real Mad Decent, Those Things, The Plodes, Critical Junction, and American Supine. Joe Keithley of DOA and Daniel Byrne from Fader Master Studio were on hand to judge the performances.

All seven bands brought down the house, but Real Mad Decent and American Supine emerged victorious, winning 18 hours of studio time at PAVI studios and a student-produced music video. Congratulations to these two bands and to everyone who took part in the night!

MC Tamara Stanners

On Friday, December 7th, 2012, Music BC Charitable Foundation hosted its first ever Celebration! event at the Vogue Theatre, to raise awareness and support for music education programs in BC, and to celebrate the fantastic and diverse talents of BC’s top music artists. Mistress of Ceremonies Tamara Stanners (of 102.7 The PEAK FM) was on hand to keep us entertained between acts, which she did with many a witty quip!

Joining us were musical acts of all stripes–from Bill Henderson and Chilliwack, to Shaun Verreault of Wide Mouth Mason, to PEAK Performance Project finalists The Harpoonist & the Axe Murderer and Portage and Main, to hip hop sensation Cityreal with blues legend Wes Mackey. An all-star blues band, fronted by renowned blues man Jim Byrnes took turns showcasing the talents of a variety of established BC acts, like David Gogo, Steve Dawson, and Murray Porter.

On top of up-and-coming, hot-ticket acts like Steph Macpherson, Terri-Lynn Williams Davidson and Tonye Aganaba and The Foundation , we were also treated to some avant garde honor band pieces by Vancouver Technical Secondary School’s Senior Honor Band and the adorable grade 6/7 band from Queen Alexandra Elementary. Stand-out student act of the night belonged to Jesika Kula of the Songwriters of a New Generation program, who with mates Kirsten Kwong and Beth Saul, performed two original songs and charmed the audience thoroughly.

Special thanks goes to the Vogue Theatre- who provided the amazing and beautiful venue for the show as well as production staff to keep things running smoothly. Sponsors Tom Lee Music and Nimbus School of Recording Arts made sure we had all the backline and stage hands we needed, as well as recorded the show free of charge. Happy Water provided refreshment to our hard-working crew of volunteers, staff and artists, as well as the 150 student performers who joined us for the event.

A big thanks to our publicist extraordinaire Joelle May of Mod May Promotions, who was instrumental in securing a front page story in the Westender as well as various other invaluable media coverage. WE Vancouver really came through with an amazing print sponsorship and 102.7 The PEAK FM provided a well-needed push on the radio waves!

A huge hand goes to our volunteers who helped run our donation station and artist merch booths, as well as kept our performers and crew fed and hydrated. Volunteer videographers Lev Shum and Elias-Crespo Mulatto filmed the event and will be producing a video reel to recap the event and help promote for next year! Staff photographer Leigh Eldridge and Christine McAvoy took care of still photography of the night and you can check out their photos on the Foundation Facebook page.

Last (but not least) a HUGE hand to Vancouver Fanclub for hosting the terrific afterparty for our VIPS and performers! Check them out for music events and fab nightlife on Granville Street!

The night will be hosted by the PEAK 102.7 FM’s vibrant radio personality Tamara Stanners, feature a special honoring ceremony by Squamish Nation’s Chief Ian Campbell and performances by the always inspiring Rainbow Creek Dancers.
